Margie's Bio
Margie grew up listening to "old time" music around the house. She started singing old time songs with her grandparents and parents at a very young age. Her family always loved sing-a-longs. She started playing guitar at age 14 with the Beatles influence.
The guitar was put aside to raise her 3 children and 3 step children (The Brady Bunch.) Then, in l992, she visited a "Justa Buncha Banjos" rehearsal and was hooked on that "old time" music once again. She joined FIGA (Fretted Instrument Guild of America) and has been attending various banjo festivals around the country ever since. She plays a plectrum banjo tuned like a guitar. She also enjoys singing barbershop harmony with fellow banjo players as well as singing in her church choir and ringing the hand bells.
She continues as a member of a larger banjo band called "Justa Buncha Banjos" and they play at nursing homes and senior centers when a big band is requested for a special event. That group consists of 8 or 9 banjos and a drummer and trumpet player. She also plays and sings with the trio called the "Jersey Jammers" and with the duo known as "Sweet & Simple." A CD of that last group is available by contacting Margie at banjomargie@verizon.net.
